Good Morning Gina
Late Friday afternoon Beth and I rode our bikes to the
falls at Northumberland, just upriver from Schuylerville, near Champlain Canal Lock
5.
OK, I get excited! |
Off-road biking allowed us to explore deep into the
trails around the old (and new) canal and river in a spot called Hudson
Crossing Park, which was awarded an Erie Canalway [sic? it IS the Champlain
Canal] Heritage Award of Excellence in 2015.
We found this display just before we arrived at the spot
where we snapped the selfie, above.

Part of its message reads: “You are tracing the footsteps of many who came before
you. For thousands of years people have
used this river….”
The history of the river – especially its use and
development for commercial and recreational purposes – is described very nicely
in a broad historical context. This,
along with simply looking around and seeing Old Meets New with your own eyes
makes a strong point… of how small we are in the scope of things.
Then, in the lower left-hand corner it says: “Imagine
what has floated by this place…. What is
floating past you today?”

Mindful that we are not the first -- nor certainly the last -- let's live up to our stewardship responsibilities. We know exactly what is "floating past right now" and we know that it is not acceptable.
Please help with this Gina.
